Nedra Huffey, MSW, RSW

Hello! I’m so happy you stopped by!

Even though this page is called "About me", I want it to be about you because you're the one who should feel confident that I'm the right choice for you and/or your family.

Picking the right therapist is not easy; I understand you want to work with someone you can trust and feel comfortable with. That's why I think a short introduction is in order :)

Nedra Huffey therapy services

My name is Nedra Huffey, and I’m a mental health therapist and an RSW (Registered Social Worker).

I have experience working in the field of mental health, in particular:

ï‚·

Child and youth emotional behaviour challenges
ï‚·

      Parenting support and skill development
ï‚·

      Trauma
ï‚·

      Parent and caregiver education
ï‚·

      Complex (relational) trauma.

I have been a child and family social worker for more than 15 years, and I’m a mother of neurodivergent children, both adopted and biological. I have learned a great deal through my personal and professional experiences that I can draw on as I support others. With you as the expert on your own experience, I’ll provide support, new skills, and perspectives as we work together to navigate your journey. Let’s go through this together!

Even though I have extensive training and many years of work experience under my belt, I have no
doubt that being a parent myself allows me to better understand your family’s challenges. I’ve been working with adoptive, kinship and foster parents and their children for 15 years, and I’m eager tohelp your family, too!

Therapy approach

My therapeutic approach is client-centered, supportive and non judgmental. Understanding your needs and goals for counselling is my priority.

Together, we will develop a plan to meet your goals, which can include processing difficult and mixed emotions that overwhelm you, disturbing memories or experiences and building skills for managing your current challenges.

I use an integrative therapy approach based on the client's needs and goals to provide trauma-informed,attachment-based support for children and their families. As a parent of neurodivergent children, I highly value the lived experience of the children and parents I support.

My goal for you and your therapy is to help you feel more confident, better equipped and optimisticabout current and future challenges that life may throw your way.

My areas of specialization

Child and family counselling

Parent-child or family sessions
can help your child gain
confidence through a
strengthened relationship with
you, improve social skills, and
learn practical skills to manage
emotions such as anger,
frustration, fears, and anxiety, as
well as decrease disruptive
behaviors.

I believe your relationship with
your child is the most important
part of your child's wellbeing,
which includes their mental health.

Because of this, I prioritize
improving the communication
between kids and parents. This
includes two or more parent
sessions to understand your
concerns while we create a
treatment plan to fit your family's
needs.

Following this, we will begin joint
sessions where we will nurture
your relationship with your child
while also talking about the
things that matter most!

My sessions include
developmentally appropriate,
attachment-based play therapy.

Teen counselling
teen counselling services

Being a teenager can be stressful
and overwhelming. If you feel like
there is something wrong going on
with your teenager, it’s a good idea to reach out for help.

Teenagers need to face challenges many adults can’t even imagine, and in many cases, they simply need help! Even though they won’t admit it.

The teenage years are filled with
changes and challenges, both
physical and emotional. Your
child/teenager needs to figure out
their place in the world, and that's
not easy even for us adults!

And this is where the counselling’s
role starts. Counselling provides a
safe space where your teenager can openly express their emotions without being judged by the parents, teachers or anyone else. Counselling will also help them get to know themselves better, understand what they are going through and how to get the hang of all this. We will also work on other issues and the mental wellbeing of your teenager!

Adult counselling

Adult life is no picnic. We all have our challenges, and with the crazy pace of life, we all feel lost and alone from time to time. I understand that very well, and I’m ready to be there for you!

Individual therapy sessions will help you understand yourself better, overcome challenges that life throws your way and build your path to mental wellbeing.

My individual therapy services are
designed to help my clients with such issues as trauma, anxiety, grief and loss. But that’s not a closed list, so don’t
hesitate to reach out if you’re dealing with something different.

One of the major therapy approaches I use in my work is called CBT – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This therapy approach is known for its flexibility and effectiveness. CBT can be used in almost any situation or mental health challenge.
